Ana María Alonso Zarza

Ana María Alonso is a professor in the Department of Mineralogy and Petrology of the Geological Sciences Faculty at the Complutense University of Madrid. She was awarded the 2016 Walther Medal by the International Sedimentology Association.

From 2016 to 2020, she chaired the Spanish Geology Society and was the national coordinator of Geolodía, a dissemination initiative involving over 10,000 people each year.

Ana María’s main area of research has focused on studying continental carbonates in different countries. She has been appointed as a Courtesy Research Associate at Oregon University and Visiting Professor at Edmonton University, respectively.
