Antonio Callaba

Antonio Callaba de Roa. Born in 1962, married with two children. Degree in Geological Sciences from the Complutense University of Madrid (1986). Diploma in Hydrogeology (1990). PhD from the Polytechnic University of Madrid (1994).

Visiting Scientist at the National Risk Management Laboratory of the US Environmental Protection Agency (1996-1997).

Technician at the Geological and Mining Institute of Spain involved in several projects, including: reorganisation of the National Soil Reference Centre, principal drafter of the regulations of Law 10/98 on waste and contaminated soil, and research into and management of soil decontamination work on industrial sites. (1998-2001), (2002-2007). (1998-2001), (2002-2007).

National Expert seconded to DG Environment of the European Commission working on preparing the Thematic Strategy for Soil Protection (2001-2002).

Technical advisor to the National Agency for Evaluation and Foresight (ANEP by its Spanish acronym). (2007-2013). (2007-2013).

Technical advisor to the Sub-Directorate General for Circular Economy of the Ministry for Ecological Transition (MITECO by its Spanish acronym) responsible for contaminated landfill sites. (2013-present)

Teaching

Associate Lecturer at the Madrid School of Mining and Energy Engineering, teaching courses on environmental chemistry, hydrogeology and contamination, environmental risk assessment and decontamination of soils and groundwater. (2009-present)
