Visiting Scientist at the National Risk Management Laboratory of the US Environmental Protection Agency (1996-1997).
Technician at the Geological and Mining Institute of Spain involved in several projects, including: reorganisation of the National Soil Reference Centre, principal drafter of the regulations of Law 10/98 on waste and contaminated soil, and research into and management of soil decontamination work on industrial sites. National Expert seconded to DG Environment of the European Commission working on preparing the Thematic Strategy for Soil Protection (2001-2002).
