Maribel Martínez Martínez

Hazardous Waste and Soil Quality Service Manager. Department for Economic Development, Sustainability and the Environment. Basque Government.
Degree in Advanced Industrial Engineering from the Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingenieros Industriales (School of Industrial Engineering) in Bilbao.
She worked for 3 years in the Department of Energy Technology at this School, focusing her studies on air pollution. In 1988, she started her career in the Basque Government’s Department of the Environment, where she continues to work. She has been responsible for air quality and also for the Hazardous Waste Service since 1991. She played an active role in enacting the first law on the prevention and correction of soil contamination, and integrated it into the Contaminated Soil Department in 2005, when the law was unanimously approved by the Basque Parliament.
As technical manager of the contaminated soil section in the Basque Government’s Department of the Environment, she has promoted the enactment of the current soil regulations and their effective application in the Basque Country.
